Multiskilled Video Journalist

GENERAL SUMMARY: Visually gathers engaging content for various WHAS media platforms

MAJOR JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Gathers video and audio for news stories working alone or with a reporter
Edits using non-linear equipment, both at station and in field
Able to operate live equipment including microwave trucks and TVU units
Performs preventive maintenance on camera and editing equipment
Able to interview people and gather elements for a news story independently
Generates story ideas and content
Social media savvy by continually contributing to online reporting by submitting video, pictures and information from developing news stories via various online platforms
Must keep abreast of local, national and world news, and all current events
Interact productively and positively with station personnel and general public
Develop contacts and trust within the community
Drives company vehicles daily to news events and breaking stories
Proficient in computer operation including various upload/download techniques
May also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by the supervisor and other newsroom management

Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent with some college or technical training preferred
Valid driver’s license and good driving record
Must be able to pass background check/drug scan
Strong knowledge of digital HD cameras, nonlinear editing and LED lighting technique
Can report to work as needed on any shift on any given day including weekends

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2-4 years prior videography, including nonlinear editing experience in medium to major market
Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working in a news gathering environment

SKILLS & ABILITIES: Must have the ability to clearly communicate with people we do stories on
Must have the ability to work under pressure
Qualities required – patience, endurance, and tact
Communicates daily with the public, reporters, etc.Should have an eye for composition/technical ability
Needs a sense of journalistic integrity
Ability to interact productively and positively with fellow employees
Continually being alert and well informed of conditions/environment
Must have ability to be available on short notice OTHER: Needs mobility continually, walking, kneeling, squatting, climbing, running, going up and down ladders, stairs, walking backwards, crawling, stooping etc.Possible exposure daily to weather elements, chemicals, pesticides, gunfire, riots, hostile crowds, fires, floods, natural disasters and other hazardous conditions
Heavy lifting (30 to 70 lbs.) of cameras, recorders, lighting equipment, tripods, microphones and editing equipment is frequently required
Travels to locations, shoots, conventions, wherever news events are happening. Frequency of travel varies
Hours vary on a rotational basis from 9 to 16 hrs per day depending on events being covered
Must have the ability to suspend a camera on shoulder for extended periods of time
May occasionally go up in WHAS helicopter to record contentMust be a team player
Need to be able to work independently, with little direction
