Assistant News Director

We are accepting applications for a full-time, standing position as Assistant News Director at Morehead State Public Radio.

Responsibilities: The Assistant News Director is the producer, host and anchor or back-up producer of daily news programs such as Front Page, Morning Edition and/or Mountain Edition. The Assistant News Director has significant responsibility for the production of local public affairs programming. Duties include the scheduling of guests, conducting interviews, writing stories, voicing newscasts and producing long-form reports on news and sports throughout the region. The Assistant News Director recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates the progress of student staff members and volunteers, assuming the responsibility of the News Department in the absence of the News Director.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field with on-air and news experience. Knowledge of computers for word processing, data management and digital editing. Experience in interviewing and feature production. Must be well organized, able to work well under pressure because of daily deadlines and possess a clear and authoritative on-air presence. Must be able to operate a variety of studio and remote audio equipment. Ability to recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student personnel and volunteers. Maintain a valid driver license.

Desired Qualifications: Graduate level work in communications or related field and/or extensive experience in writing and production of newscasts, documentaries and other long-form news features. The ability to reconstruct priorities with effective time management skills. Prior experience in sports reporting.
