WLKY is looking for a dynamic, energetic morning reporter who has the ability to
generate story ideas, write to video, and do compelling live shots. We are
looking for a take-charge reporter who hits the ground running every day. The
successful candidate loves breaking news and is highly competitive. In
addition to credibility and personality; we’re looking for a reporter who
thrives on being in the field and covering breaking news – a versatile,
enterprising self-starter who is fast, efficient, works well under tight
deadlines, can develop sources, and has excellent live reporting skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Multiple live reports during morning newscast
  • Gathering and delivering content for all WLKY platforms – broadcast, digital, social
  • Strong writing skills, excellent live presentation
  • Building a network of news sources in order to generate stories
  • Contributing pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms consistently throughout your shift
  • Can juggle multiple stories and projects at once, demonstrates exceptional time-management skills by meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure.
  • Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards

Experience Requirements:

  • Past reporting experience (2-5 years) required – this is not an entry level position
    Your demo reel should be indicative of your everyday work – and include multiple examples of live reporting
  • Related military experience will be considered

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Strong writing and storytelling skills
  • Ability to use latest technology
  • Can work in all weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Has a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends
  • Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent proven work experience.
  • Equivalent military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) and associated
    experience will be considered.

Camera Operator

WLKY-TV has an opening for a part-time production Studio Camera Operator who is a self-motivated, detail oriented, organized multi-tasking team player with strong interpersonal skills that works well under pressure. Ideal candidate will have working knowledge of broadcast production operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for operation of television cameras for a live broadcast
  • Interact with directors, producers and talent & must remain focused at all times
  • Will also operate audio console at times, being responsible for all aspects of sound during fast paced newscasts and other projects as needed.
  • Operate television studio cameras in a live production setting.
  • Operate studio lights and change bulbs.
  • Operate Windows-based computer software to prepare video recordings for air.
  • Punctual attendance for shifts that can start as early as 4am.
  • Work weekends and holidays as necessary, in support of our 24/7 broadcast operations.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience operating professional video cameras in live production.
  • Experience using Windows-based computer software.
  • Equivalent military experience will be considered.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Knowledge of robotic camera operation and audio is highly desirable
  • Ability to rapidly respond properly to issues that unexpectedly arise on air is necessary.
  • Knowledge of studio lighting.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 15 feet and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Can work flexible hours and shifts including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be an effective communicator and team-worker, able to work cooperatively with others, sometimes in stressful situations.
  • Ability to follow instructions quickly and accurately, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work from a standing position for a 2-3 hour period.

Education:

  • College graduates with a communications degree preferred
  • Technical school or completion of college level technical courses a plus.
  • Military training and experience will be considered.

Meteorologist

WLKY has an opening for a high energy, highly skilled meteorologist/traffic Anchor. We are looking for a unique candidate: responsibilities will include morning traffic reporting/producing, but we are also looking for a meteorologist who can join our weather team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate compelling, and understandable traffic reports and/or weather forecast..
  • Develop on-air traffic graphics and models using in-house WSI traffic system.
  • Gather information from law enforcement, process multiple incidents and correctly determine the most relevant
  • Provide urgent, immediate weather information before and during severe weather events on all platforms
  • Summarize fact and clearly communicate content for broadcast
  • Excellent adlib ability, specifically during major breaking news and severe winter weather coverage

Experience Requirements:

· Previous on-air experience required.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Knowledge of weather science and forecasting.
  •  Dynamic on-air presence
  • Knowledgeable about how to interpret and translate high powered radar data
  • Excellent forecasting and on-air skills
  • Ability to use common television weather systems.
  • Radar experience preferred

Education:

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology or related field

CBM and/or AMS seal preferred

Military training and experience will be considered
